Gas power plant for Raahen Voima

The power plant building is located in the middle of the SSAB Raahe steel mill area. It replaced the old power plants, which had been built when the steel plant was founded in the 1960s. The new power plant produces electricity, heat and steam for the factory area and district heat for Raahen Energia. Electricity is generated environmentally from the process gases of the steel mill.

The façade materials of the plant are natural-colour concrete in the base and metal-sandwich element above and profile sheet from SSAB’s own façade products.

The façade colouring follows the colour and material scale used in the new buildings in the factory area adapted to the existing building stock.

The VALO™ virtual space method of our office was used together with the operation personnel in designing the interior spaces of the main control room. This enabled verifying the functionality of the furniture and spaces in advance in a 1:1 scale.
