Juho Turpeinen

Architect // Architecture photographer, Oulu

UKI Architects has played a significant role in shaping my professional identity, as I began my career here as an intern early on in my studies. Since then, I have gained design experience in office space planning and through participation in numerous architectural competitions. I also enjoy visualization. I love how the story at the heart of a design can be brought to life as a sensory experience. A building is always more than just the sum of its walls to its users.

Before I became interested in architecture, I worked as a photographer. The camera remains one of my most important tools, although buildings are, as subjects, a bit more static than events and people, and the situations are less hectic. Through photography, I have learned to understand and appreciate the changing natural light of the North, and I know how to utilize its aesthetics and nuances in architectural design as well.

Outside of work, I love spending unhurried time at home with my wife and children. I’m easily fascinated by even the most ordinary things and want to figure out how things and phenomena work. I find peace in the simple, basic things in nature, and I’m passionate about ice hockey.
