Honorary mention in the public architectural competition of Lapland Central Hospital expansion
UKI Arkkitehdit received an honorary mention in the architectural competition of Lapland Central Hospital expansion. The competition task was to design the second expansion to Lapland Central Hospital (39,000 m2 floor area) in a way that the result constitutes Lapland’s future hospital.
The award-winning entry, Uuvana, is a harmonious, clear and patient-oriented complex on the coniferous hillside of Ounasvaara. The hospital complex is constituted around light and verdant inner courts sheltered from winds.
The starting point for the design is seamlessly functioning logistics based on a slope solution and forming an architecturally harmonious whole with the old hospital. Clear passages, spacious and verdant views as well as abundant natural light are key points in the award-winning solution.
