UKI Arkkitehdit participates in winning JUST alliance
Järvenpää’s new social and health centre JUST is the world’s best information model -based building project in public buildings.
UKI Arkkitehdit Oy from Oulu is part of the alliance that implemented the town’s new social and health centre JUST in Järvenpää. The alliance has received an important international recognition, when JUST was chosen world’s best information model -based project among public buildings in the Tekla Global BIM Awards competition.
The jury commended JUST for extensive and diverse utilisation of information models (BIM, building information model) and looking for new usages.
”When choosing the winners, we paid attention to the accurate modelling of different building materials, diversity of the model, innovative utilisation of information models and cooperation, and especially the feasibility of the information model, which is reflected in the accuracy of the model, for example”, says jury member and Trimble manager Ragnar Wessman.
Architect Antti Vanhala from UKI Arkkitehdit says the award indicates that the office has performed its design work well and also utilised the information model excellently. He estimates that success in the competition was also assisted by the use of the VALO method in designing JUST from the beginning. VALO creates a completely realistic virtual mode of the designed premises.
”The method helps acquire information from the future users of the premises for designing as functional premises as possible. This also commits future users to different design phases more tightly that usually. We utilise VALO especially in hospital design. We use information models in almost all projects” – Antti Vanhala
Victory in the Tekla Global BIM Awards competition also indicates that UKI Arkkitehdit is a good cooperative partner, estimates architect Raija-Liisa Miesmaa. A total of eight parties worked in different tasks in the awarded alliance.
The international Tekla Global BIM Awards competition introduces world’s best information model -based building projects annually. This year, the competition had seven categories, where 73 best projects from local trials competed for victory. The competition is arranged by Trimble Solutions Oy. Trimble is an international conglomerate specialised in geographic data technology. Trimble’s products include Tekla software for information modelling and structural design.
The winning JUST alliance consists of client Kiinteistö Oy Järvenpään Terveystalo, VALO alliance in charge of design (UKI Arkkitehdit Oy, Arkkitehtitoimisto Tähti-Set Oy, Insinööritoimisto Erkki Leskinen Oy, Insinööritoimisto AX-LVI Oy, A-Insinöörit Suunnittelu Oy, A-Insinöörit Rakennuttaminen Oy) and main implementer NCC.
