The Planning of a New School in Kiiminki starts

UKI Arkkitehdit Oy’s design won the bidding competition of the Jokiranta School in Kiiminki, where UKI Arkkitehdit collaborated with the Oulu-based contest winner Rakennusteho Oy. The construction of the new school is scheduled to begin in August 2019.

Our design was praised for its adaptability of the spaces and its suitability to modern pedagogical methods. In our solution, the learning spaces can be adjusted so that the learning groups of different sizes can be formed flexibly and naturally. Space arrangements support pupils’ interaction, involvement and communal information gathering. Design process will be continued in collaboration with the design team, the users and the client.

The design also focuses on the goal that the new building would produce a cohesive, communal and functional entity together with the existing, significant buildings and the sport park area. The building represents today’s architecture that will stand the test of time with its’ façade materials, colors and details.

The interior is painted in calm, natural tones, where the natural light can be experienced throughout the building. The choices of materials will focus on long-term durability, acoustic performance and ease of maintenance in addition to comfortability.
