Turning sixty

Year 2018 is an anniversary for UKI Arkkitehdit Oy, because the company turns sixty. The exact birthday was already the first day of the year. Mikko Heikkinen, managing director of UKI Arkkitehdit, is pleased to conclude that the already quite long career of the firm is a token of high-quality work and the trust it has earned among the customers.

UKI Arkkitehdit was founded by Uki Heikkinen, whose work at the head of the firm was continued by his son Matti Heikkinen. Now Matti’s son Mikko is next in line to lead the company.

”It feels good to have such strong roots in the company”, he comments.

The managing director is confident about the future. He believes that the operation of UKI Arkkitehdit will continue steadily and grow in a controlled manner. Heikkinen estimates that all design teams in the company operate in markets that offer excellent growth potential.

Mikko Heikkinen is very satisfied with the past year 2017. He wants to bring out some specific events.

Business agreement and
wider owner base

One of these is the business agreement made in early spring where UKI Arkkitehdit acquired the capital stock of Arkkitehtitoimisto Arknova Oy in Helsinki.

”Now we can improve our service to our customers in the metropolitan area and also expand our operation and client base there. We want to strengthen our presence in the growing metropolitan market”, he emphasises.

Another significant event was expanding the owner base of UKI Arkkitehdit. In the summer, the company acquired six new partners who are all architects employed by the company. Now UKI Arkkitehdit has a total of nine partners. The main owner is still managing director Mikko Heikkinen.

”Our purpose in increasing the owner base is to ensure the continuity of the company and the commitment of the personnel”, he describes.

Among the many ongoing projects, Heikkinen mentions the Future Hospital OYS 2030 program, which renews the Oulu University Hospital almost completely. UKI Arkkitehdit participates the giant undertaking which is implemented with a project alliance model.

UKI Arkkitehdit one of the biggest companies in its field in Finland. It employs ca. fifty people.
